Grades

For those of you that want to get your grades from the previous assignments please see me either during office hours on Monday 4-5 in room 515 or let's chat at the start of class next Monday. I had them with me yesterday but I didn't get a chance to go over them with you.

HTML Haiku Project

For next class please make sure that you have the template for the webpage completed as much as possible. We didn't get into CSS yesterday but you should have the majority of your HTML (content) laid on the page. By next lab you should have:

-built your two folders html and assets folders
-created four pages in text wrangler index, page 1, 2, 3
-placed page 1, 2, 3 in the html folder
-placed your images in the assets folder

  • entered your haiku on the index page
  • entered the individual lines from your haiku on each page
  • inserted your pictures and resized (either by hand or in photoshop)
  • altered the background color
  • changed font (if you choose)
  • created hyper links on your index page
  • change font size/color
Please make use of the HTML Introduction sheet, a lot of the coding to do these things can be found there if you get stuck.

***For those of you wanting to keep the same format for your page as Prof. Lucas you will need  drag his template into text wrangler and work from there. Copying the code (we did for some of you) will give you a white unformatted background. Thanks Kevin!

For those of you more advanced:
  •  consider changing the banner
  • changing the borders, divs
There are couple of you that have border/div questions I promise to get back to you in the next couple of days, you will hear from me by Thursday sometime.

One final note: Patience, Patience, Patience. If you are having an issue with code keep reworking it often times we make small syntax errors. If you need to, walk away for a few minutes to reset your eyes.

Guided Blog Assignment #2- New Eyes

We all have a routine that we follow, a certain route that we take home everyday, or the same alternate route. Often times we get used to the environment and the atmosphere, we see the same stores, houses, street lights, lamp posts. For this assignment I want you take a picture of something that you encounter on a daily basis and imagine it as you never experienced it before. Observe the richness of the space and its details,  for i.e..the tiny cracks on the side of a building, the light that flickers, the reflection of the sun on a window.... Experience the space with new eyes. Consider different angles, CU's, LS, to change the monotony of your experience of this space. You can use your phone to take this picture, if you don't have a phone with a camera, look for an image online of the area/space, or write a paragraph about the re-imagined space.

****Please provide the link to your blog post to this assignment. Please be sure to respond to atleast one  post.

This assignment is due March 4, 2012 Midnight. (Sun. AM)

Like a cheetah on roller skates, the Vimeo Festival + Awards are fast approaching, and we don’t want you to miss a thing — especially your chance to submit! The Festival + Awards celebrate the best original videos online, and we’re handing out $5,000 grants to category winners, plus a $25,000 grand prize. Here’s what you need to know right now:
We’re flipping out over our newly announced Festival + Awards judges, including James Franco, Aziz Ansari, 2012 Oscar Nominee Lucy Walker, and Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood. We’ll be unveiling this year’s host soon! See all the judges.
Judges

The deadline to submit your videos to the Festival + Awards is February 20, which means it’s (almost) your last chance to show us your best work in one or more of 13 categories. There are categories for everyone, and you don’t have to be a professional filmmaker to show us your stuff.Submit your videos now.
VFA

This year’s Vimeo Festival + Awards are happening in our hometown of NYC from June 7-9, and you can be there with us for all the glitz and pixels. Tickets will be available soon — we’ll let you know. In the meantime, see what happened last year.

Guided Blog Assignment 1 For Lab: Image that Resonates...due Feb. 20, 2012

Post an image, a still photograph or video that resonates with you. It could be the last shot of your favorite movie or a photo that you are drawn to. When you post the image briefly discuss why you like the image, what draws you to the image, and the type of emotional response it evokes from you.

Below is a picture taken by Gordon Parks that reminds me of a sociological research study done in the 40's that observed African American children's response to White and Black dolls. Most children identified the White doll as good, happy, peaceful.  While the Black doll was considered mean, sad, and bad. This same study was done about five years ago and produced the same response.

I find this image striking; loaded with content and beauty.

picture taken by Gordon Parks

Don't worry folks your pictures or videos don't have to be socially charged, this just happens to be something that resonated with me that I thought I would share. Gordon Parks was the epitome of multi-media artist. He was a writer, photographer, filmmaker, musician, and activist.

Welcome!
